CRAWFORD NORTH COAST in June 2011
Crawford North Coast College, nestled in sugar cane fields, invited me to teach the Grade 4 & 5 kids over 2 days. Man oh man did we have fun. Just switched off from the rest of the world, in our own world of Mar - BLING!! They really got into a mode….They found the science fascinating. The world of strange gels and mordant crystals….Pipettes, Viscosities, volumes and measurements. Surface tension, saturated solutions, dilutions, skimming surfaces and dripping...and not painting with paints...but dripping and flicking them. More freedom.(so rare) Then comes the colour. The speed and build of colour intensity. Drip – Draw – Drift – Lift. (iMAGICa War Cry) They shout it out with complete understanding. The movement of the paints are amazing when you manipulate them with all types of stylusses and rakes and then lift them to appreciate.......
We all know how to write, draw & paint... NOW LETS DRIP, FLICK & RAKE.....
Drop or flick colours on the thickened gel water.Watch the droplets of paint expand into circles as you drip the paints from your pipettes.The paint makes the most weird and wonderful patterns.Draw in the paint that floats on the gel with a stylus or a rake.Once you are happy with your design, just floating there.... You will then lay down a sheet of paper / fabric / leather / ceramic….down onto the paint floating on the gel. Wait for it to absorb the paint design that floats on the surface. Lift the paper/fabric, UP off the gel... WOW!! Magic…iMAGICa
Your pattern stays/sticks on the paper and does not wash off….
